ShowRadar ("we," "our," or "us"), developed by Volatile Apps, is committed to safeguarding your privacy. This policy details how our mobile application collects, utilizes, and protects your information.
When using ShowRadar without cloud sync, your watchlist status, episode checkmarks, star ratings, streaming filter selections, and profile details you enter (nickname, country, favorite genres, and optionally gender and date of birth) remain stored exclusively on your device in secure local storage.
If you connect a SIMKL account, your authorization token is saved using device-level encryption (iOS Keychain / Android EncryptedSharedPreferences) to sync your watchlist and watch progress. If you sign in with Google, Supabase authentication receives the account identifier and email address Google provides (never your password). You can also back up your data without an email using an anonymous cloud account identified only by a random user identifier — this backup can be restored only from the device that created it, cannot be recovered once stopped, and is lost if you uninstall the app before adding a Google account to it.
When signed in to cloud sync, we store your user identifier, watchlist entries, ratings, watched episodes, and profile details (country, gender and date of birth if provided, favorite genres, streaming services, nickname, avatar) in a database protected by Row-Level Security, so each user can access only their own rows.
To display nearby movie theaters and calculate distances, the app can use your device location (Android fine/coarse location; iOS “while using the app”) if you grant permission. If you decline, it falls back to an approximate location from your IP address or a US zip code or place name you enter. ShowRadar does not request background location and does not track your movement over time. Location is looked up when you open theater features and, on first launch if you have not chosen a region, to suggest your country.
Coordinates are sent to the OpenStreetMap Overpass service to find nearby cinemas; your IP address is sent to an IP-geolocation service (freeipapi.com or ipapi.co) when GPS is unavailable; zip codes and place names are sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim. We do not store these coordinates on our servers; the last resolved location is kept only on your device and in memory.
ShowRadar interacts with third-party services: SIMKL (sync, discussions, posters), Streaming Availability API (streaming filters), OMDb (ratings and fallback posters, requested by our backend), TasteDive (titles you rate highly are sent to generate “similar to” suggestions; results are used only in the moment and not stored), Google (optional sign-in), IP-geolocation services freeipapi.com and ipapi.co (your IP address, when GPS is unavailable), OpenStreetMap Overpass and Nominatim (coordinates, zip codes, and place names, for theaters), and YouTube (trailers, requested by our backend). These providers operate under their respective privacy policies.
You can delete all local data at any time by clearing application storage or uninstalling the app. To delete your cloud account and all associated data (including profile details such as date of birth), open Profile → Cloud backup → Delete account in the app — this permanently deletes your cloud backup and erases your local watchlist, ratings, and watched history.
